The late Dr. Arthur P. Barnes conducted members of the Stanford Band and the Livermore-Amador Symphony at his final concert after fifty years as music director of the Symphony. (Barnes had conducted the marching band at Stanford University from 1963 to 1997.) The band, in a surprise appearance, opened the concert along with the Symphony with Barnes’ moving arrangement of the “Star-Spangled Banner”. His arrangement of the national anthem, which begins with solo trumpet, premiered at the Rose Bowl after the death of President Kennedy and has become a trademark of the Band.
